Ah, the study. Originally this room was used to house books, modems, many boxes of ‘misc.’, and a very old desktop PC. It kind of still does, but it’s also now Julian’s workspace, so the computer is much fancier.
Not a lot changed with the study. It can almost be described as The Room That The Budget Forgot. It was given the standard paint job (Dulux Linen) and had the wiring redone along with new lighting. The original shelves were left in, but revarnished, and the Terrazzo floor was polished.
Over Christmas we had a fleeting, yet productive visit from Keith, Caroline’s brother. (Hi Keith) He doesn’t get much time out from a very busy schedule in Germany, but he flew in for three days of manic moving, organising, unboxing, and placement of art. Caroline was very happy to have someone to argue with about furniture placement, and Julian and I were just happy that it wasn’t us. We simply became the grunts, albeit skinny ones.
All the doors in the house were replaced during renovations, and they all have locks. All the locks have three keys, and additionally there are six padlocks on the various fences and grilles. We haven’t bought two of the needed padlocks yet, but assuming these new ones come with three three keys each, we will have fifty-four new keys for this relatively small house. In New Zealand, we had three keys.
If this sounds a little excessive, it is.
