Thailand is a popular holiday spot for western folk, and sometimes it’s easy to be disillusioned into thinking the country is full of conniving locals, branded beer shirts, and all-night parties with ladyboys, ping pong shows, and chained elephants. But with a little time, patience, and Google Maps, Thailand slowly reveals it’s true nature; a charming land of non-confrontational people, beautiful scenery, devout religion, and out-of-this-world food.
In Thailand we managed to work at bizarre permaculture centre with a freaky old man, accidentally spend two nights teaching English in a village, make a wrong turn and have a feast thrown for us, tie two people together with string, and ride in the back of a cop truck with our broken motorcycle tied to the back.
