A Few Good Reasons to Camp at Nam Roo

Oh, hello.

If it’s a lovely, quiet, lakeside setting you’re looking for, and you happen to be near Fang, which is in a town in the Chiang Mai district, which is in a country named Thailand, then take a 10 km detour to Nam Roo. When you get there, set up your tent wherever you like, eat a plateful of barbecued chicken or papaya salad cooked by the friendly ladies nearby, and proceed to sit around contentedly.

What’s that? You want to pay to camp? Too bad. It’s free. And beautiful. And quiet.

The ‘few good reasons’ that I mentioned in the title of the post are shown below:

Wasn’t that nice? If you’d like to go to Nam Roo, the easiest way is to use some sort of GPS (like Google Maps if you have a smart enough smartphone), and have your own transport.

The coordinates are HERE

Or ask a taxi to take you. No idea how much that will cost.

There are toilets at the site, and if you like pouring very cold water over yourself from a bucket, then there are also showers. Some Thai people had a swim in the lake, which is a bit murky. The river that leads into the lake has pristine, clear water, and you can also bathe in that. However, it is only a few inches deep so you’ll look funny trying to swim in it. Flailing might be a better option.

If you’re a generous sort of person, take some dog food. The stray mutts will certainly appreciate it.
